As part of the 24-hour security that aimed to provide the utmost convenience to the residents, the management decided to install fingerprint biometric readers throughout the 2 towers. This meant that the residents would never have to carry around access cards in their pocket. While the intent and the decision to go with a biometric solution was spot on, there were several major issues they were faced with:

• The biometric readers were performing poorly with wet or moist fingerprints on fingerprint readers installed outdoors
• The initial architecture of the entire solution was poorly set up, leading to problems with elevator control and transfer of users to different devices
• The database continually crashed every 30-45 days

The setup was so complicated that Panorama had multiple different professional system integrators try and improve the experience for the management as well as the residents but to no avail. Then, a final system integrator introduced a combined solution from Invixium and RS2 for a rugged, seamless and elegant access control experience: IXM SENSE 2.

Some readers were not authenticating the registered users, there was data loss every once in a while, the fundamental architecture of the existing biometric solution just didn’t work for this application and everyone was frustrated. In fact, we did not even have to change the wiring. We used the existing wiring, just replaced the readers and it all works great! Modern Biometric Security Featured In A Security Installer’s Showroom

Located outside of the capital city of Bern, MEXSO operates as a total technical solutions provider. There are many options available in today’s market for biometric access control devices, but the perfect solution for Volante Towers would need to match the development’s high standards for design while still delivering the high level of security demanded by residents. Further complicating the project, the solution had to integrate with the Savant Systems’ home automation controller used in each suite to manage other systems like lighting and air conditioning from a single easy-to-use kiosk.

Getting The Job Done Right With Modern Biometrics

A total of 124 IXM TOUCH units equipped with access card reader, PoE and a backup battery have been installed at the front entrances of all suites including service entrances. The products are connected to an electric door strike where access is granted through the IXM TOUCH or remotely via any smart device. Audio communication via biometric device and video feed from the external fish-eye IP camera provides the convenience of intercom to an internally installed iPad.

With this modern access control and intercom system, residents at Volante Towers can use biometric, ID or any MiFARE card to enter their apartments comfortably. Occupants can also “trigger their desired scenes such as lights, A/C and music” with personalized access with a touch of a finger. Lastly, residents can monitor entry and exit behavior at their home with the ability to grant access remotely from any smart wireless device. Each of these features, when combined, offer those living in these high-end towers the utmost in convenience, luxury and security.
